WEBSITE - NEIL DUERDEN

www.neilduerden.co.uk

The illustrations on this website are amazing. A combination of mixed media and photography interlaced with vectors. I really admire the style of this work, the way you can look at them for hours and still notice new elements of the design, colour, pattern etc.

Interesting collection of work - he is definately talented at the styles/approaches he uses. I agree with your comment that as a viewer you can continuously look at the work and notice new elements - I think this is part of the appeal of the work itself. This style of eclectic mixes of images, shapes, patterns composed together in a random seeming structure has become very fashionable and 'now'; the advertising examples on the site highlight how many big brands have employed such techniques in recent advertising campaigns - the energetic nature of this kind of work is obviously deemed an effective and eye-catching way of advertising a product, particularly to a youthful audience.

I personally found some of the work in the editorial and showcase sections of the website far more interesting as it had more of an individual identity and a consideration as to where the work was being feature, what and who for.

It is a real shame the website and navigation structure doesnt reflect the work and illustrator more personally; its not particularly inspiring, you find yourself going back and forwards between pages and it is missing that personal touch from it's owner. There will always be the argument as to what extent should a portfolio site just display the work and/or the personality of it's owner, what makes them tick etc. I just think he has a real passion for the work he does but this doesnt come across in the website like it does in his work.
