SHORT FILM - DOLL FACE

This short film demonstrates how in life we try to obtain the "perfect" image as presented to us by the media. But, no matter how hard we try, it is always much too far out of reach, there is always more we can do. In the flim Doll Face keeps reaching for this idea of perfection, she can never be happy with herself, and this leads to her destruction. This reflects real life and how, now more than ever, people are far too concerned with their appearance, sometimes with devastating effects.

This is a really interesting way of portraying this issue. It is a very prominent, current issue which is much talked about. There are so many pressures on people of today to look 'perfect'. These pressures mainly come from the media where magazines 'name and shame' people if they dress in the the wrong clothes, wear the wrong make up or have any body imperfections. This issue has escalted with the strive to become a size zero. There are measures beginning to come in to combat these problems such as models having to have a certain BMI, or have a doctors certificate to show they do not have an eating disorder, so that they can work on a fashion show. However, I do not think enough is being done in other areas of the media. Only a small part of this big problem has been addressed.

This film offers a unique exploration of this issue; the idea of the doll being robotic-like could perhaps indicate the fashion in which people follow trends and celebrities presented to us in the media. People are often unaware they strive to be like those figures of 'perfection' presented to us whether it be through magazines, advertising or TV. It reminded me of the Dove viral - Evolution - have a look for a different way of communicating this same issue.
