DANCE - THE EVOLUTION OF DANCE
The Evolution of Dance
Judson Laipply
YouTube's most viewed video of all time. The Evolution of Dance is a hilarious collaboration of "classic2 dance moves. Definately worth watching!!
DANCE - THRILLER
Performed by prisoners from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Centre.
I spotted an article on this in the Metro (Wednesady, July 25, 2007). This clip has attracted nearly a million viewers on YouTube so far. It is a re-make of Micheal jackson's Thriller music video, featuring 1000 prisoners. The prisoners are tarined to perfomr a number of dance routines as a way of boosting morale and building discipline.
I wonder how they decided which one of them was to play the role of the woman?

SHORT FILM - DOLL FACE
This short film demonstrates how in life we try to obtain the "perfect" image as presented to us by the media. But, no matter how hard we try, it is always much too far out of reach, there is always more we can do. In the flim Doll Face keeps reaching for this idea of perfection, she can never be happy with herself, and this leads to her destruction. This reflects real life and how, now more than ever, people are far too concerned with their appearance, sometimes with devastating effects.
WEBSITE - FERRY HALIM
This site includes numerous games that have been created in Flash. It also includes a few extra features, including being able to create your own vase of flowers and being able to send these on to others (http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/flowers/index.htm), quite a cute idea I think.
WEBSITE - RILO KILEY
This website displays the dates of Rilo Kiley's 'Under the Blacklight' tour. To see the tour dates you have to turn on the blacklight. This is a simple but effective idea.
WEBSITE - MR. PICASSOHEAD
Visit this website to "paint" just like Picasso. The outcomes are actually pretty limited and it gets a bit monotonous after a while. I'd personally prefer to pick up a paint brush!! However, it does have some novelty value so it's worth checking out for five minutes of fun!!
PAINTING - ONE WEEK OF ART WORKS
I strongly recommend watching this. A group of artists painting continuously for a week. Throughout this time the painting changes and develops, it is just really interesting to watch. You never quite know what is coming next!! I personally love the simplistic linear illustrations they create using only black and white paint (until the finale at the end where they introduce colour). I think that watching the piece being created can often be more fascinating than the final piece itself. I would be really interested in capturing some of my own paintings/drawings in this way, stage at a time to see how they develop.
KINETIC ART - TIM FORT
Over five minutes if Kinetic Art, Fort has use a range of different objects to keep this piece on the move!! It is fascinating to watch and you sometimes wonder whether it will be successful or not! The piece must have taken hours to set up and just over five minutes to knock down, you cant help but think it would have been frustrating if it got going and then not worked!!
FILM - POLLOCK

POLLOCK (2000)
Directed by Ed Harris.
A film based on the life of the artists Jackson Pollock. This film gives insight and understanding in to the life and art of Jackson Pollock (played by Harris). Harris learnt to paint like Pollock for his role in this film, and so the scenes where he is bent over a canvas painting are as close to the real thing as they could be. It is incredible to watch the paintings develop in the film as well as learning more about Pollock's life. I would strongly recommend this film, especially if you are interested in Pollock's work, and if you would like to borrow it let me know!! After seeing the film I would now be interested in reading the book from which it was developed, 'Jackson Pollock: An American Saga', (Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith).
